欧米では、マーガリンを食べる＝穏やかな自殺、とまで言われ規制されている
世間には知らされていない恐ろしい事実がもうひとつある。それは悪魔のオイル、ショートニングとマーガリンの正体である。これはラードの変わりに使われる常温で固形のオイルだが、これはトランス型という立体構造を持つ自然界に存在しない異常な油で、クッキーやパン、多くの菓子類のほとんどに原材料として使われています。

このショートニングやマーガリンに含まれるトランス型脂肪酸は大腸炎やクローン病、その他まだ知られていない様々な疾患、各種アレルギーの元凶となることがわかっており、日本以外では禁止または制限されています。

分子構造がプラスティックと同じで常温で解けないことから、欧米では｢プラスティックオイル｣と呼ばれ敬遠されています。
