1.　日本のオフィスでは、「我慢をしている男が偉い」ということになっている。

2.　熱帯モンスーン気候の蒸し暑い夏を持つこの国の男たちが、職場の平服として、北海道より緯度の高い国の正装である西洋式の背広を選択したのは、「我慢」が社会参加への唯一の道筋である旨を確信しているからだ。

3.　我慢をするのが大人、半ズボンで涼しそうにしているヤツは子供、と、うちの国の社会はそういう基準で動いている。

4.　だから、日本の大人の男たちは、無駄な我慢をする。しかもその無駄な我慢を崇高な達成だと思っている。暑苦しいだけなのに。

5.　実はこの「やせ我慢」の文化は、はるか昔の武家の時代から連綿と続いている社会的な伝統であり、民族的なオブセッションでもある。城勤めのサムライは、何の役にも立たない、重くて邪魔なだけの日本刀という形骸化した武器様の工芸品を、大小二本、腰に差してして出仕することを「武士のたしなみ」としていた。なんという事大主義。なんというやせ我慢。

6.　以上の状況から、半ズボンで楽をしている大人は公式のビジネス社会に参加できない。竹光（竹製の偽刀）帯刀の武士が城内で蔑みの視線を浴びるみたいに。なんとなれば、わが国において「有能さ」とは、「衆に抜きん出ること」ではなくて、むしろ逆の、「周囲に同調する能力＝突出しない能力」を意味しているからだ。
